Let it be known that August 18 is a day ripe for plundering. It is very short on any relevant or useful days to celebrate. The dog days of summer (in the northern Hemisphere at least), indeed!
Just a pro tip:
If you work in the field of Vegetal Politics, I would argue you may want to consider officially declaring August 18th as Plant Liberation Day before the Aeronautical-Landing-Gear Safety Consortium claims it as Know Your Hydraulic Systems Day.
I really did try to find something more interesting for today than fajitas. But alas, it came down to Indonesian Constitution Day or this.
Given Suharto’s constitutionally dubious reign, I decided that fajitas have been around – and definitely celebrated – much longer than Indonesia’s Constitution. (Also, Constitution Day is not the same as Indonesian Independence Day, which may merit a celebration of sorts. Constitution Day is probably more akin to President’s Day in the US.)
And admittedly, there was some personal bias tilting me toward fajitas. I have my doubts about the veracity of some of the “children’s” map submissions from Indonesia over the past 12 years or so.
So Fajita Day it is! (What an abomination… but at least they can be enjoyed as a gluten-free meal. That’s a win, right? I guess?)
I gave this day the amount of energy, effort, and time it deserved – one minute. You get what you prompt for.
But it’s good enough to tide us over until next year, when the International Marble Chess Carving Guild claims the date as its own.
