Amnesty International Day (148/365)

Founded by Peter Benenson, a lawyer, in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a non-governmental international human rights organisation. It campaigns to protect people’s rights, as well as engaging in a whole host of outreach and educational initiatives. There’s an awful lot of ridiculous “days of” on the international list (it’s also National Hamburger Day but seriously…the world’s probably eaten enough hamburgers already) but this is one that probably actually deserves recognition and pause for thought, reflection, and support.

I wanted a more sombre, respectful map for this subject matter with a simple colour palette and symbols that riffed off the famous logo.

Amnesty International map

Original Prompt (ChatGPT)

For Amnesty International Day I’d like a map that highlights some of the most prominent achievements of the organisation. I’d like it in a documentary poster style with a serious tone.

I’d like a dark-toned world map where key achievements are symbolised by illuminated “beacons” or glowing candles inspired by Amnesty’s iconic candle-and-barbed-wire symbol.

The map should use:

  • Deep charcoal or midnight-blue oceans
  • Muted land colours
  • Warm glowing gold/orange highlights for successful campaigns
  • Documentary-style annotations and callouts
  • Archival-photo textures and protest imagery blended subtly into the background

The emotional tone should be:

  • Serious
  • Hopeful
  • Activist
  • Historically grounded

Please ensure you highlight important milestones such as the 1977 Nobel peace Prize recognition.
